It’s a Stag Beetle (Lucanus cervus). They’re pretty common.

Well, relatively common. In Europe.

Just a stag beetle, but they are surprisingly fiendish. I recall encountering one in my kitchen once: it buzzed around rather malevolently in a slow sinister way like a little alien spacecraft looking for a landing site. Still, it’s a noble beast and we’re lucky to have them. Just not in my kitchen.
