The B asked,

Um, not to be all anti serious debate or anything, but can we have something light hearted before moving on to part 3? Kind of like an interval in a theatrical tragedy where you get to have a glass of wine and some M&Ms to tide you through the last act?

Ask and ye shall receive.

Well sometimes.

You have to provide your own wine and nibbles mind you.

So in part 1, I talked about tradition. I am now going to talk about is whether circumcision of children is child abuse or not. If you read the debate I had with Dan earlier this year, you can see I refuse to have a debate whilst I, or my father where called child abusers. And even though Dan and I settled that debate on the words he used, the fact remains (and is shown in the part I on tradition) that many of you believe circumcising a child is abuse.

I'm not going to talk about the medical pro's or con's of circumcision. As far as I can tell even the medical industry is not fully in agreement. So lets assume that being circumcised has roughly the same from a medical health perspective as not, if you actually shower and keep your bits clean. You can argue this point if you want, but I'm not a doctor, and for every doctor you can find to say "Blah" I can find one to say "Not blah", so lets skip the medical gumpf.

So I did promise that I would present my case for circumcision. In fact I promised this twice. If you want to read the background to the debate, it's here and here. Although I do warn you they are lengthy. I'll try not rehash exactly what I said before, and I'm actually not going to reread them before righting this so I can try write my thoughts clearly without descending into my normal point by point discussion style.

I think before you can even discuss weather circumcision as a tradition is wrong, you need to look the two aspects individually.

  1. Tradition for tradition sakes

  2. Is circumcision itself wrong

I was going to discuss all this in one post but I think it may be too lengthy. So I'll deal with each of these individually and then perhaps a third post to sum things up

So I know I have a third post to post on getting the snip.

But it's almost midnight and I'm still in the office, and my ability to do anything more intellectual than this is gravely reduced.

I am Batman. Home Page Featured is "The Joker". It is my arch nemesis. (Home Page featured might actually be The Penguin, I'm not sure about this)

So with the weather now below 10 degrees C regularly, I'd like to announce that it is officially winter. That's right folks, you heard it here first.

However this year (unlike those in years past) I'm not entirely unhappy about this. in fact I have been quite looking forward to winter for a few reasons, and as it's rolled in notice a few others that indicate that it's on the up side of "not all that bad". Although these aren't the typical reasons people like this time of year.

Most people keep saying "I love this time of year, it's so crisp and brisk and blah-dy blah-dy blah blah blah". To this I say "Meh, it's cold, brisk my skinny white ass".

My reasons are more along the lines of

  1. Boots; as in "Girls in"

  2. It's not sunny or warm as much, so less "Cheeky quick ones" on the river in the sun after work; as in "Beers". I might actually get a bit healthier this winter.

  3. Stockings; as in "Girls in". See also (and combine with) point 1

  4. Snowboarding. Winter means the snow is coming, or damn well better come. And I'm going Dec 27, Jan 31,, and Mar 3rd. Assuming I don't break any limbs this time, it will be great. New Years on the slopes? Awesome

  5. Fishnets; as in "Girls in". See also (and combine with) points 1 & 3.

  6. Less guilt. As in sitting in my flat doing shit online, on beautiful hot sunny days, and feeling I should be doing something more, outside, like with people. Now I can do indoor stuff, guilt free.

  7. My flat not going up to 40 degrees, being South facing with a lot of glass.

  8. More movies (I do love the movies) and not having friends cancel on me because "It's such a nice day, we're going to have a romantic picnic in the park". Bah humbug.

  9. My first ebay end of year party. It's a cowboy theme. It will be amsuing

  10. The Chrismaku blog meet. The end of year blog meets rock, and if loads of people go I'll quite enjoy it.

  11. Did I mention the boots?
