My firm pays for a health screening. Part of the screening is an ECG. Part of the gumph they send you explains about this.

It also talks about metabolic workrate. From what I understand, this is the amount of energy your body expends (pumping blood and oxygen around). It literally is the energy expended by your metabolism. In other words things that have a higher metabolic work rate burn more energy, and help you lose weight more.

Below is the graph that is included in the gumph.

I want to raise the following points

  • All those people who laughed at me for digging holes on the beach. Look who's laughing now.

  • I would have thought sex is much higher than this. I mean you may as well wash the windows.

  • On the other hand next time a girl asks me to wash the windows I'm going to suggest a shag.

  • Maybe sex is the same as washing windows, because one only takes 5 minutes.

  • Lucky I enjoy squash, you burn over 5 times the energy as sex.

  • I can find someone to play squash far more easily than sex

  • Squash only costs me £1

My own research would suggest that sex is much higher, but counteracted by the fact that if you’re getting it regularly, you’re probably in the early stages of a relationship, which means going out for lots of dates and eating cooked food and drinking wine, so you will still put on the weight.

I’d much prefer sex to any of the other things. Except, perhaps, digging holes. Digging holes ROCKS ASS. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy digging holes is just plain wrong. Notice that digging holes is also the only activity that has a fractional metabolic workrate. All the others are whole numbers. I’m such a geek.

“…which means going out for lots of dates and eating cooked food and drinking wine, so you will still put on the weight.”

Which would make a fabulous reason for having more of the sex, would it not?

Just me then?

Oh.

‘k.

;)

Any reason for having more sex is a good, or even fabulous reason, no? Just me? I DON’T think so.

Whoever wrote this was obviously not doing it right!

And whoever puts digging holes above sex is obviously not doing either of them right.

Why does sex deserve a special sidenote to say its ‘variable’? It only varies between 3 and 4. Accoring to that chart badminton is far more variable.

Does anyone else get the impression that the author really just wanted to point and giggle at the word ‘Sex’ instead?

Adrian, I don’t think you can really compare digging holes on the beach to digging serious, adult holes in firm, compact earth.

It’s like saying “Oooh, sex has a workrate of 3-4 variable to I’ll have a quick one off the wrist because wanking is just sex with yourself.”

That tables meaningless anyway. I’ll find a link which gives actually calorific values for all those activities.

Dragon, I don’t think you can compare digging holes with real spades and axes to digging holes with a £2 plastic bucket and spade.

What about if you have quick one with the wrist, oh say over a dozen times in a day?

Then you need to cool it with the porn.
