Did anyone see Morrissey on "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross"?
To quote Jose, "a bit barking ...". The guy is a bit of a fruitcake. I'm sorry, and I know he's some sort of "deity" up here, but let's be honest, he's madder than a hatter up a tree. It's not so much that his elevator doesn't go up to the top floor, but that I don't think it gets off the ground.
Look his new track isn't that bad. But it's not that good. On first listening it sounded really good, but the more I have heard it, the weaker it sounds. It lacks bite.
Granted I never was a Smiths or Morrissey fan in my youth. I was aware of him/them but it never quite took. But all the hoo haa about his new album, if it's anything like his Irish Blood, English heart, I'll give it a miss.
All credit to Ross for handling the interview so well. Why Morrissey agreed to go on in when patently he hates everyone, I don't know. Barking ...

Smiths were good but not because of him. Over-rated.

How dare you!
Step outside, Sevitz!

Oh come on, the mans a loon. Not that, that means much being an artist, but it’s always nice to be able to say “at least they’re a nice bloke” or something after an interview.
And his music doesn’t quite blow me away. Honestly, what’s all the fuss about.

I am actually quite stunned by his new track. Usually when an artist disappears for a while and then ‘comes back’, they come back sounding really terrible, without the ‘zing’ they had when young. When I first hear IBEH I thought it was one of his old songs, which I consider a good thing.
I was saying to some friends yesterday that I find it quite elemental- it’s only two minutes long, two verses, two chorus, one break, says what it needs to say, gets out. I love it. *
I try and keep the artist and the music seperate. Let’s face it Adrian, Tori comes off as pretty insufferable in her interviews (“Like, my songs are babies, y’know, and they like, fly through my BRAIN and like…..woah!”), but that doesn’t stop her music from being great.

Tori comes across great in interviews and actually has a sense of humour (probably a requirement for the Ross show). And at least she is friendly. Morrissey came across completely detached from reality and look like he would rather be dead the whole interview.
As for the song, it starts off OK, launches into some political rhetoric and never quite actually has any bite. Half way through the song I’m thinking “this is a little boring”.
Me, I’m looking forward to my “Best of the Pixies” album.

‘Nice’ blokes = ‘nice’ music. Ugh.
7. Destructor
Tori comes across terribly in interviews! I went and saw her at Hollywood & Vine being interviewed for KROC and she’s a space cadet. Sure, she’s friendly enough, but what is she on? She can’t string a coherent sentence together.
It’s true that artists probably shouldn’t interview if they’re not into it. That happens a LOT on Gonzo for a reason I can’t quite put my finger on. Zane seems like a good interviewer, but the amount of times the people he’s been interviewing clearly don’t want to answer questions is kind of strange.
“So, are you guys looking forward to touring?”
“Uhm….whatever….(sigh)”
Morrissey’s thing is that he’s down. He would go out tonight, but he hasn’t got a stitch to wear, j’know? If you want cheerful, may I suggest the Vengaboys?

I’ve seen great Tori interviews. I’ve seen great RHCP interviews. I’ve seen great Linkin Park interviews. I’ve seen great Metallica interviews.
Morrissey just made me want to lamp him.
Nice = I don’t have a burning desire to beat the person to death for being a complete and utter turnip.

I actually like my artists petulant and audacious (or audaciously petulant).
I take great comfort in knowing that Vincent van Gogh was an asshole.
Makes his work come ALIVE. (you can’t see me, but I’m throwing up the jazz hands)
10. Adrian
Yeah but their is Kurt Cobain petulant (acceptable) and their is Damien Hurst audacious (man deserves to choke to death on his own vomit)
I’ve got nothing against artists being artists. I’ve got something against artists being stuck up their own rump steaks.
Side note: This is rapidly going towards sounding like I can’t stand Morrissey . Thats not true. I just can’t see the fuss, and think if he couldn’t handle a Jonathan Ross interview he shouldn’t have gone on the show.

Max Bygraves always gave good interviews and who can forget the dulcet tones of “I’m a Pink Toothbrush, You’re a Blue Toothbrush”.
12. Adrian
Um, who?
13. Destructor
And don’t even get me started on (teenager of the year) Frank “perpetually drunk” Black. Ever seen him interviewed?

14. Adrian
Yes I have actually. Several times. Came across just fine. Although this was post the pixies. Like last two years.
15. Lisa
Actually, I thought Morrissey wasn’t as bad as I thought he would be (I thought Meg Ryan on Parkinson was worse). I expected him to just sit there and sneer. At least he sort of smiled at one point, but it might have just been gas.
16. Destructor
I’ve never seen Frank Black sober, ever. Not on stage, not in videos, not in interviews, not on album covers, not on Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
Worst interview I’ve ever seen was Courtney Love when she was in NZ for the Big Day Out. She was like falling out of her chair and kept giggling insanely at all the questions, she was well stoned. I didn’t see her infamous Letterman interview but I can’t imagine that was any worse.

Good Lord, I love that man.
