I firmly believe I am in the right on this. I firmly believe that I was not misusing the work classifieds system. I firmly believe that it is an unfair accusation levelled at me. We all have our moral stand points, but don't force your value judgements on me. Especially when you don't know me, the situation, or where I stand.
Adrian,You are a brave man putting an advert like this in the public domain, as a large number of Accenture employees will no doubt find this in extremely poor taste. It is unusual to see such a blatant advert for something which is widely recognized as inhumane and unacceptable in this country. The info-base is not used by people wanting to advertise personal items that may cause offence such as porn, anti-religious material etc, and I can see no reason why your item does not fall into the same category.

[Name Removed],I appreciate your concern, but I cannot see the comparison between advertising porn and hate material and a fur coat. I realize that many people do not agree with fur clothing and I am one of those people. However this was a fur coat owned by my late grandmother which has been passed on to my mother who does not wish to keep it (for a variety of reasons). My mother in turn has asked me to assist with the sale, as she can’t bring herself to ‘just throw it away’.
I understand how some people find fur offensive, but as I said this was bought my grandmother in a different time. I also understand that many people still wish to own fur, and whether I do or not, it’s not my place to decide what other peoples moral standing should be.
As I said I appreciate your concern and have noted your objections, but do not see a fur coat as the same as hate material.
Many thanks
Adrian
Adrian,Whilst I appreciate we should draw a line under this, and without wishing to argue back and forth, I feel it necessary to point out that I was merely drawing a parallel with materials that cause offence as a whole, and how caution should be exercised in posting materials that could be construed as offensive for whatever reason, by different types of people.
I agree it is not our place to determine others moral standing, but surely common sense should prevail. Naturally, we shall have to agree to disagree on this matter, and perhaps we would both be wise to seek clarification from the database administrator on instances such as this.

Wow… and I thought the US was too politically correct! How silly for someone to say it’s wrong for you to advertise a fur coat. It isn’t like you’re forcing it upon people. I agree with you. :)

Holy flying shit, what is that all about. What an absolute load of crap. Does that apply to people selling leather goods in case it upsets the vegans?
Equating, say, a swastika and a old, yet rather attractive, fur coat is offensive, or am I really picking up on that person’s own beliefs rather than something objective.
I’m sorry you have committed a thought-crime - I hope the sentence isn’t too long.

It was fur? I thought it was just creased.

Dammit, shouldn’t hit post before thinking things through. Sorry if that offended, I genuinely didn’t know that it was a fur coat. I’m daft about animals and wish that there was no market for new fur coats BUT preventing the sale of antique fur items is not going to solve anything and I can’t equate it with selling “porn, anti-religious material etc”.

Daisy, no offence taken. Although the title of the email did say FUR Coat for sale. :-)
As my mom says, the fur coat exists, objecting to it wont make it exist any less. And if you don’t like fur being sold, wouldn’t you rather an old coat is resold than a new one is made.
I really object to someone else deciding what my morals should be. Fur may be distasteful to some people, but it is not actually illegal and accusing me abuse IMHO was way out of line.
Razor, the first time I read that I wondered why you were hoping that the sentance (as in length of words you had written) wasn’t too long. Doh!

Don’t mess about Adrian. Take out a contract on the guy.

You want to stick up a few more products on there:
“1x large blender. Will take a whole baby if diced.” “Large collection of German gay and animal porn.” “1x copy of Mein Kampf. A truly inspirational work, I shall be sorry to lose it.”
And then see which attracts most complaints.

Hmm. Fur offends some people. Some porn offends some people. Hate material offends… most? people - clearly not the, er, individuals that create and distribute it. So no real distinction there, but…
The supply of porn is restricted and licensed. Hate material is criminalised by our public order legislation. Fur isn’t. Society has legislated on other ‘offensive’ items, but not fur. If you wanted to sell racist pamphlets on your database, you’d get nicked.
I reckon your {name removed) mate is just being emotivist - ie: I don’t like it = it’s morally wrong.

Jordan’s massive fake tits offend my sense of good taste, but you don’t see me writing angry letters to channel 4.
People like this really hack me off. If you don’t like fur, don’t buy it. I assume that this person also doesn’t wear leather and doesn’t take medication of any sort? (as it was undoubtedly tested on animals) We can try our best to prevent unnecessary cruelty to humans or animals, but I think it’s safe to say that the animal in your grandmother’s coat isn’t going to be too bothered by the issue at this point.

What a load of cobblers, you’d think some people had nothing better to do.
Besides, [name removed] is a silly name anyway. Perhaps he/she ought to be a little less reactionary and go with something like John or Helen instead?
