I hate when movies treat me like I'm an idiot. Like I need pointers to understand what's going on. It's definitely a Hollywood problem, who I think think that the American audience they are primarily making movies for are dumb. I would feel even more insulted if I was American.
I was watching the end of MI2 last night after channel hopping after the end of the last episode of season three of the excellent Six Feet Under (which aside from the fact the only drink Budweiser, doesn't treat the audience as if they are dumb at all).
In the big "money transferring scene" where the bad guy is getting paid, he instructs his techie underling to transfer the money. The underling opens a laptop, and the screen briefly displays the words Swiss Bank Account.
Who knew that banks in Switzerland had no names.

presumably the effort of thinking of a suitable foreign language name was just too much. Or they figured the audience wouldn’t understand if it wasn’t in English - ooh, even more insulting!

I’m suprised they didn’t provide a world map, with a ‘you are here’ arrow and a ‘this is foreign parts’ marked over the rest of it.

We’re pretty slow sometimes over across the big blue……..they really need to spell things out for the younger audiences because as everyone knows as time goes by we only get dumber! Kids don’t learn anything in school anymore so everything is simplified for the target audience (or people with the most expendable dollar—which is a high school kid—-How does that work?).
Anyway, American’s are stupid, blah, blah!

I don’t think American’s are dumb. I do think Holywood does and doesn’t give you guys enough credit and if they just made movies properly people would understand it. I think Americans treat Americans as if they were stupid, which is a shame.

I may comment that anyone who watched the entire movie to that point (I know you ‘hopped’ to it Adrian) can easily be classed as stupid, or at the very least brain-dead for watching the whole damn thing!

There really was a Swiss Bank… Swiss Bank Corporation… but I doubt that the programme would have alluded to that ;)

Just like stereotypes … it’s an easy way to get the story moving along quickly … i mean you have about 2 hours to tell a story ;-)
btw, six feet under is excellent. i wish i had hbo and no be stuck on season 1. they need season 2 on dvd.
