Their is a hair dresser attached to the gym in my complex. I need to get my head shaved and was feeling a bit lazy so I thought I would pop in and see if they could do it quickly. It's a quasi trendy chain, but thought I would give it a shot anyway.
- Number of hair dressers in the salon - 2
- Number of clients in the salon - 0
- Number of minutes it would take to shave my head - 5
- Skill level required to shave my head out of 10 - 3
- Amount of money (in £) I was willing to pay - 10
- Amount of money they said it would cost - 25
- Amount of money they didn't make - 10
Ok, I understand they have set pricing. And I know thats what hair cuts cost at quasi trendy salons. And I know I have paid that in the past. But I have paid this for a proper hair cut where they spend a decent amount of time on me. I'm not paying that for 5 minutes with the clippers. I would have even understood if they where busy. But the two hair dressers where sitting around doing nothing. The place didn't have a soul in there. And it's fairly new and always fairly empty. So not quite the smartest business sense.

Maybe it was a “full service” salon and the 25 pounds included both a back rub and front rub.

I probably would have got a head massage if I asked for it. But I really just wanted a 5 min quickie with the clippers.

It cost me £25 last time I went for a haircut and that was to wash, condition, de-tangle, cut, and painstakingly blow-dry quite long hair. It took over an hour to finish and so I think it was worth the price, but there’s no way anyone should charge over a tenner for what you were after.

I’ve started doing my partner’s hair because he got fed up paying a fortune to get his head shaved…. I’m quite good now ;-) So if you have a partner get them to do it. If not, perhaps it would make an interesting chat up line! How about, “You look like you could handle a 5 minute quickie with the clippers?” mmm.. on second thoughts you might get slapped for that.

Yeah I do my own as well, but now and then it needs a professional touch.

Yeah, my wife has done my hair (what’s left of it!) for a couple of years now. Even better - she bought me the clippers in the first place!
