"Nothing changes, On New Year's Day" - U2, New Years Day, War Album.
So welcome to 01/01/02. Hope your new years bash was a good one. Mine was OK. Not bad, but not what I wanted. Which is what I expected. We went to Mezzo's which is a Conran Restaurant (i.e. expensive, swanky but with good food). I wanted to do either the big School Disco bash or the big Ministry of Sounds Bash at the dome (18 000 people) but no one wanted to do the big party. I was happy to do the small cheesy vibe to but one of Ross's friends was organising Mezzo's so I just went along as I was too lazy to organise anything else.
We met up in a pub around sixish for some drinks and then headed to Mezzo's at about 7:30. Mezzo's was done up nicely and had some drinks at the bar before heading to our table. Lots of party poppers and crackers and wine and I was having a good time. The food was good (or my food was good, but a lot of people didn't like what they ordered). I had tuna sashimi followed by salmon tartar followed by fillet steak followed by some average desert. I really enjoyed my food, but they stretched out the courses too much at it was 11:30 by the time we stopped eating and hurried downstairs.
New years came in fairly quickly then, but we had been eating too late and not partying early enough and hence for me, new years never quite got going. No new years snog (as is usual for me) The last few years its been drinking and dancing from much earlier in the night and by the time new years swings around your in the spirit for it. After new years came and went I danced a bit but the music was really for the most part lame middle of the road seventies and eights crap. Nothing with any soul of oomph to it and therefore nothing to keep me going. So I started getting very tired very quickly. I left at about 2ish, walked home and watched nebulous rubbish on TV till about 4 and then hit the bed.
So New Years was what I expected really. I know it's always an anticlimax, but I have had some pretty good ones ('99, '01) in the past. Also I figure if it's always a disappointment then next year I am definitely going be disappointed doing what I want to do. This restaurant vibe is ok if you have a chicken, but if you are single then it’s a bit lacking in the rip roaring party stakes.
Ah well, happy new year all. Lets hope it’s a good one.
